About Bob’s

Before I get on my soapbox about “quality”, let me introduce myself. My name is Bob and I’m the sole proprietor of Bob’s Plaques. Right away, you are probably thinking that the name is not very original. I’ll have you know, I spent a great deal of time and effort with a focus group in developing my business name.

Actually, I spent 5 minutes discussing it with my wife. Well, not really discussing it so much as informing her of what I had decided. She wasn’t any more impressed with my originality than you probably are.

Decades ago, I worked in the water-jet industry and since then, I have always been intrigued with cutting out detailed shapes. For years, I’ve worked with scroll sawing.

Having competed in the sport of arm wrestling for over 30 years, I have seen my share of awards. In 2002, I made my first set of plaques for the United States Arm Wrestling Championships which involved making over 120 awards. My approach was to make something that was professional-looking, durable, and something I would be proud to display for years to come. To this day, I still receive complimentary feedback on them.

I have dreamed about starting a side business like this for years and as is often the case, came up with many reasons against doing so. Some could even say that with the present happenings in our country that this might not be the best time.

Enough with excuses and procrastination. I’ve heard too many people say later in their lives that they wished they had done what they dreamed of doing. I have no idea what shape or direction this dream may take, however, I won’t know unless I give it a try.

It is important that you know that this endeavor would have no chance of success without the support of my sister Beth who provided and continues (hopefully) to provide the website support. In addition, I would not be able to have gotten my start without the help of the fine folks at my local maker space, BiG Fab Lab in Bowling Green, Ohio. Today, I’m blessed to have my own workshop outfitted with everything I need to continue providing quality work and plenty of room to explore new methods.

I take great pride in the work I do. My goal is that you are so happy with the product you have purchased that you tell others about it and that these types of word-of-mouth recommendations become the ultimate marketing program for Bob’s Plaques.
